I love this walk. For me, it's what Cornwall is all about; the rolling Atlantic ocean, breathtaking views and a feeling that this landscape is the same as it was hundreds of years ago. I always return home with a sense of well being, even if I've nearly been blown off the cliff tops!
What a great place to stop and breathe, take in your surroundings. This is Tim, my partner and Isla, enjoying the view.
The coastal walk from Lizard Village to Kynance Cove is one of the most picturesque routes in Cornwall, showcasing stunning views of the rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and the shimmering Atlantic. We started our journey in Lizard Village, where parking has never been an issue for me, even during busy bank holidays. The village has a large grassy triangle at its centre, with parking available by donation—a rarity these days!
The path is clearly signposted, so just head toward Kynance Cove and follow the trail. The views are spectacular right from the start. There's also an excellent pasty shop in Lizard Village, and while I don’t usually make recommendations, I can't resist Ann's pasties! One of my traditions is to enjoy a pasty on the cliff tops, paired with a flask of coffee—perfect for taking in the scenery.
Depending on the wind and tide, you're sometimes lucky enough to see a few brave surfers. It's mesmerising watching them wait to catch a wave. I can only imagine what it must be like to be surrounded by this ocean and the views that go with it.
The tidal pools are only visible at low tide and there are lots of them! If you fancy some salt on your skin, this is a safe place to enjoy the Atlantic Ocean.
A few of them are easy to access and believe me, you will feel totally invigorated when you've done it.
Kynance Cove was particularly busy, August bank holiday, is not the best time to visit this amazing beach if you want to be far from the madding crowd. But it's also nice to see people enjoying the beach and what Cornwall has to offer, we are so lucky to live in this beautiful county. Luckily the tide is out so more room for everyone! When it's full tide there is hardly any beach, a few large pebbles to sit on and none of this gorgeous sand. It's like being in the Caribbean, nowhere better than Cornwall when the sun is out!
On a less busy day, we would have walked across the cove and up the path on the other side, but we were feeling lazy!
There's also a great little cafe on the cliff top if you fancy something other than a pasty, perhaps an ice cream or a cream tea.
Something unique to this area is Serpentine. The cove is well-known for this unique rock, and you'll find it scattered throughout the area.
After we sat and watched everyone enjoying themselves, we decided to walk back. It's great going back the way you came, as it looks so different!
Instead of returning to the village, we decided to walk to the Lighthouse. I love this part of the walk as I know what's at the end!
Not only are the views amazing, but two amazing cafes are waiting at the end!
I love the old lifeboat station and it's hard to believe that so many brave men risked their lives, catapulting themselves down the ramp on a stormy night, ready to help a boat in distress.
Not only have you got an amazing view to soak up, but you are at the southernmost tip of England.
There are two cafes here but my favourite is the Wavecrest cafe. Sit on the bench seat and enjoy a well-deserved drink, there's also a great menu.
Buy Your pasty in one of the great bakeries at the Lizard village
Take a flask, find a comfy spot and enjoy the breathtaking views
Be daring and have a swim in the Atlantic ocean!
If you love that ozonic smell of the ocean and fresh air, then you'll love our fragrance collection. Our candles are second to none, they burn for over 50 hours and fill your room with fragrance. Not only that, but you get to keep the bone china votive to use afterwards or buy a refill. Launching later this month!
As you can tell, Kynance Cove is one of my favourite places to visit in Cornwall and Andrew Tozer is one of my favourite artists. When I saw Andrew's painting, I asked him if I could include a photo of it in my blog and he very kindly agreed.
I hope you love it as much as I do.
