Recently we received an email from Gillian, who showed us how she’d incorporated her Cream Cornwall pieces into her gorgeous holiday let. We were itching to find out more about the house and why she chose to use Cream Cornwall.

It all began when Gillian met her husband, Ewen, 15 years ago when she was looking for a builder to renovate her own home in Edinburgh. Not only did Ewen take on the job but he generously offered Gillian space in his own house while he carried out the renovation - and that encounter was the start of a new personal and business relationship! Before long, Gillian had given up her career in marketing and joined Ewen in renovating properties for clients, with Gillian indulging her love of interiors and Ewen having the skills to bring her ideas to life. However, after COVID and years of hard graft with very few holidays, the duo decided enough was enough and moved to the picture postcard village of Lower Largo in the East Neuk of Fife, known for its stunning coastline for an easier pace of life.

The pair bought a house as their new home right next to the sea with direct access to the beach. Gillian had almost finished the interiors for her home when she came across Cream Cornwall whilst googling 'coastal interiors' and was instantly hooked! She said: "I love the coastal look but just didn't want anything too cliched or that might be construed as tacky. Cream Cornwall offered accessories which were really high quality, tasteful, timeless and a bit different from other retailers. My first purchases were accessories like cushions and decorative bits and pieces like the ceramic underwater flowers. I felt frustrated that I hadn't discovered the company earlier....I wanted to create a whole Cream Cornwall vibe but our own home was just about finished and there are only so many cushions you can place on the sofa and still have room to sit down!!"

Brimming with ideas, it wasn't long before the pair had bought another little coastal house just a stone's throw away from their own home. The idea was to set it up as a holiday let and to offer a really laid back, coastal sanctuary. First off, they painted the outside of the house blue with a yellow door. The neighbours in the other houses on the terraced street were initially aghast but, after the job was finished, they were fully on board and are also now considering brightening up their exterior for a more colourful coastal vibe. The obvious name for the property, after the external refresh, was 'The Wee Blue House' and Gillian then set to work on creating as big an impact on the inside.

"This time I was able to incorporate Cream Cornwall furnishings into the interiors from the concept stage. I bought Navron Linen fabric, featuring the cutest little scallop shells, to make curtains and also for bolster cushions for the bed. I also bought a couple of Manderley pink linen cushions - they were so lovely, I have to admit that I decided there was space for one more cushion on our own sofa at home but the other went on the bed in The Wee Blue House as a centrepiece.

"In the lounge, I had a very neutral palette but then really upped the coastal vibe with a Longships Tripod Floor Lamp with a Rockpool lampshade and Saltwater Natural linen cushions. I loved some of the furniture on Cream Cornwall's web site but couldn't stretch the budget so instead bought a tub chair from TK Maxx and covered it in Cream Cornwall's Manderley Blue Linen fabric - it's now a real statement piece".

The Wee Blue House is now fully up and running as a holiday let. The laid back, coastal vibe quickly attracted visitors and the house became fully booked for two months within just a matter of days. "The house sleeps just two people so we tend to be attracting couples or single people enjoying a break from their busy lives. I think our guests just love the relaxed feel - with Cream Cornwall's products, the interiors are very harmonious. Even though I used different patterns from different ranges, everything works together to create a real feeling of sanctuary. The beach is just a minute's walk away but the fabrics and furnishings mean that the calming coastal vibe continues even once you get home after walking along the beautiful sandy shore or a day's hiking along the Fife coastal path. Our guests go home feeling calm and relaxed...some have already said they'll be back next year for their next coastal immersive experience!"

Gillian continued: "I've promised Ewen that we won't be doing any more projects since we are meant to be enjoying the easier life...but, then again, the Reef Collection is now calling me!"
